An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot and killed an attempted robber Friday night.
The officer was approached by a man with a gun in the 1900 block of West 87th Street, just after 10:00pm, according to a statement from police.
The two struggled and the gun discharged, striking the attempted robber, the statement said.
The man was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The officer suffered minor injuries.
Calumet Area detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority are investigating.
