Off-Duty Cook County Sheriff's Correctional Officer Shot in Chicago Alley

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s correctional officer was shot in a Chicago alley late Monday night.

Chicago Police News Affairs said a 37-year-old man was shot in the leg just before 10:30 p.m. in an alley in the 2800 block of South Tripp.

The Cook County Sheriff’s office said the shooting victim was a sheriff’s correctional officer.

The off-duty officer was shot when a dark-colored van pulled into the alley and someone fired shots from the vehicle.

The officer was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was listed in stable condition. Authorities said the wounds did not appear life threatening. 

Area Central Detectives are investigating.
