Oddsmakers Bullish on Cubs' Chances of a World Series Repeat

The champagne had barely dried after the Chicago Cubs won the World Series championship in Cleveland, but oddsmakers are already weighing in on the team’s chances to repeat next year.

According to the website Bovada, the Cubs are currently the odds-on favorites to repeat as championship, with 7-to-2 odds that they’ll be able to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy again next season.

The Cubs entered the 2016 season as the favorites to win it all, and that’s exactly what they did as they won 103 regular season games and then got through the Giants, Dodgers, and Indians en route to their first World Series title in 108 seasons.

The Boston Red Sox and the Dodgers are tied for the second-best odds of winning the title, with a 9-to-1 chance, and the Washington Nationals (12-to-1) and the Cleveland Indians (14-to-1) round out the top five.

Unfortunately for Chicago White Sox fans, oddsmakers aren’t as bullish on that team’s chances, as the Pale Hose are back in the pack at 40-to-1 odds of winning the championship next season.

Cubs fans will also be happy to know that the St. Louis Cardinals are just outside of the top 10 in terms of odds, with a 22-to-1 chance of winning the title next season.
