1 Dead, Family Displaced in Oakland Fire

One person was killed and three people displaced after a fire in the Oakland neighborhood Sunday morning, according to officials.

Four people were inside the home in the 4100 block of South Berkley Avenue when the fire began around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Owner of the house, Kimberly Banks, and her two sons made it out of the house safely, but a family friend did not exit with the family.

The friend was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries. She was later pronounced dead, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Neighbors reportedly phoned in the fire when they saw flames shooting out of the home.

“It flamed up so fast,” said neighbor Shaquita Dixon.

The cause of the fire was not known as of Sunday morning.
