November Fire Claims Second Victim

A man is dead as a result of a fire this past November.

Michael Cruz Senior, 32, has died from injuries he sustained in a November 6th fire.

Cruz was apparently trying to save his two youngest children when he ran back into his burning home.  His 3-year-old son, Michael Cruz Junior, was killed in the blaze as well.

The second, third and fourth floors of the Pilsen neighborhood building went up in flames around 4:00pm on November 6th.  Officials said three other children were also in the house when the fire broke out but were not seriously injured.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Michael Cruz Junior's mother, Valerie Guerrero, postponed the 3-year-old's funeral in hopes that Cruz would recover and they could grieve together, but he never regained consciousness.

"He's the one I looked to for strength. When anything went wrong, like this, I would have gone to him," she told the paper. "Now I have no one to go to."

The Chicago Police Bomb and Arson unit ruled the fire accidental.
