A Northwest Side Bank of America was held up Tuesday by a man sporting a straw cowboy hat, authorities said.

A man approached a teller around 4:30 p.m. at the 5466 N. Milwaukee branch where he handed the teller a note announcing the robbery and demanding cash in a plastic bag, according to the Chicago Tribune. The robber lifted the right side of his shirt exposing a handgun in a holster.

The man, described as a Hispanic in his 50s standing about 5-foot-8 with brown hair, fled northwest on Milwaukee Avenue.

A tracking device placed with the cash was found by authorities on the sidewalk of the 6300 block of West Petersen Avenue.

The man was last seen wearing a straw cowboy hat, a long-sleeved blue shirt and blue jeans.

After searching the area, FBI agents and police did not find the man the Tribune reported.
