A person of interest was being questioned in connection to the shooting death of a 17-year-old North Side College Prep student on Chicago’s North Side.
Emmanuel “Manny” Gallegos was a passenger in a westbound vehicle Monday in the 4400 block of West Addison Street in the city’s Irving Park neighborhood. A person standing on the street corner with two others opened fire on the car, striking the teen in the neck about 5:36 p.m., police said. He was taken to Illinois Masonic in critical condition where he later died.
Just outside Galegos' Belmont Cragin home, about 20 of his Soccer teammates offered $200 that they collected among themselves.
“All he did was study, go home, go to the park and play with us,” soccer teammate Oscar Noyola said of Emmanuel.
Esteban Gallegos, Emmanuel’s brother, spoke to a reporter outside the home.
“I’m speechless,” he said.
Esteban Gallegos Sr., Emmanuel’s father, also spoke briefly.

“My son was real nice,” he said. “He was bright, he was a smart kid.”
Police say the gunman—a teen who police believe is named Louis , aka “CK “ or Goonie—allegedly approached that passenger and asked what gang they belonged to. When they said none and drove away, the gunman opened fire.
They would not confirm if the alleged shooter was the person being questioned Wednesday night.
“Catch the guy who take the life of my son,” Esteban Gallegos Sr. said.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
