Bomb Threats Reported at Northern Illinois University, DePaul O'Hare Campus

Buildings at all of Northern Illinois University's campuses were evacuated over a bomb threat after another was reported at DePaul's O'Hare campus.

All occupants of the buildings at Northern Illinois University's campus were asked to stay beyond 500 feet of all campus buildings in a 6:49 p.m. note posted on the school's site.

"Everyone can report to the convocation center or they can return to their homes," the note read. A post on the school's Huskie Athletics Twitter account posted around 7:27 p.m. said the convocation center had been cleared.

"At this time, the threat appears to be a hoax and one of a series of bogus bomb threats called into a number of colleges and universities across the region," the school said in a note on its site. "However, to ensure the safety of students, police are conducting a building-by-building search before allowing anyone back into buildings."

NIU said in a tweet that classes will not be canceled Friday.

A bomb threat was also reported at the DePaul O’Hare campus.

About 50 students were evacuated from the second and third floors of the campus as a precautionary measure, a spokesperson for the school said. However, police have left the scene after nothing was found.

Classes will continue Thursday evening at the campus, the spokesperson said.

The threats come after evening classes were canceled Monday at the College of DuPage over reports of a bomb. An all-clear was given at the scene later that evening.
