Chicagoans hoping for a white Christmas will be disappointed to find cloudy skies and no snowfall in the city this morning.
Though a combination of snow and freezing rain was expected overnight into early Christmas morning, any hint of snow was gone by about 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The suburbs and parts of the city saw a small window of precipitation about 5 a.m., when a light mix of rain, snow and sleet flurried down for about three hours, the service said.
The rest of the day will give way to cloudy and partly cloudy skies with temperatures rising to the warmed side, hitting a high of 42 degrees, the weather service said.
Temperatures will drop back down to freezing tonight with a low of 32 degrees, the weather service said.
No snowfall is expected over the next few days, the weather service said.
