No Murder Weapon Found at Gage Park Home Where 6 Found Slain: Source

When asked if there was a possibility that the killings were the result of mistaken identity, a source told NBC5 “we’re not that far down the road.”

Chicago Police say they continue to investigate every possible scenario in connection with the grisly deaths of six individuals, including two children, in a Southwest Side home last Thursday.

A source close to the investigation tells NBC5 that a handgun was recovered inside the house, but that it was not believed to have been used in the crime. And no other obvious murder weapon was discovered.

Asked if there was a possibility that the killings were the result of mistaken identity, the source said “we’re not that far down the road.”

In the meantime, investigators continue to stress that they do not believe there is any threat to the neighborhood where the bodies were discovered, in the 5700 block of South California.

“At this point in the investigation detectives are reviewing the autopsy reports and moving from evidence recovery to a comprehensive criminal investigation,” said spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, who said investigators were working to do a thorough background on each of the victims to try and identify a possible conflict which could have triggered what he described as an “unspeakable tragedy.”

Guglielmi said everything from a domestic incident, possible robbery, or something “nefarious” that could have targeted the family is being explored.
