No Bond For Bogus Uber Driver Accused of Multiple Rapes

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office said Wednesday a suspect picked up one of the victims in his bogus Uber at Chicago and Franklin last December.

Neighbors in River North react to the charges of a man posing as an Uber driver to kidnap and rape a woman.

“It’s really scary and concerning,” said Lauren Wolf.

“I’m really shocked to hear of that in this area," Christa Carey said.

A judge denied bail for 33-year-old Mussab Afandi of Glenview Wednesday after DNA evidence linked him to three of the rape cases in Chicago.

“It makes me question who I should trust,” said Lizbeth Araujo.

Prosecutors say Afandi picked up the five victims as far back as April of 2016 — often posing as an Uber driver as women waited for rides outside bars and restaurants.

The victims were able to give police information about the suspect that led to his arrest in March.

Afandi was denied bail Wednesday.
