New Pitch for Wrigley Billboard Moves Forward

Zoning Committee approves new Toyota sign for Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs have put plans for a new park billboard into overdrive.

Chicago’s Department of Zoning recently approved the Ricketts family’s revisions for a new Toyota sign that would loom above the walls of the Friendly Confines.

The new plan puts the proposed new sign directly behind the bleachers, instead of on the back wall of the bleachers. The difference is only a few feet, but the move would keep the sign as an interior feature, according to the Chicago Tribune. The paper also says the sign’s polls would be green to match the bleachers, not red as first proposed.

“We are encouraged that the zoning department has approved the design,” said Cubs spokesman Mike Lufrano to the Chicago Tribune. “This sign is one sign in the outfield and represents an important resource for us to continue to invest in the team and the ballpark.”

The Cubs still need to gain clearance from the landmarks commission next month, before officially adding the sign to the ballpark's roster.
