Neighbors Band Together After Brighton Park Sex Assault

Chicago police Cpt. Don Jerome asked neighbors to share video of anything suspicious from Sunday around 8 or 9 a.m.

A brutal attack brought neighbors together in Brighton Park Wednesday night.

“It’s scary that it’s something so strong that families have to worry about one more thing," said concerned parent Belem Mondragon.

Police are looking for the man who broke into a home on Richmond Street near 43rd.

The suspect choked the victim until she passed out and sexually assaulted her.

“It just hit home," said Joseph Williams. "I have a wife and five children but also four of those children are girls. When I think about something like this happening in someone’s own home it just made me want to come out and be supportive."

Neighbors are helping to share police fliers about the Sunday morning attack.

“There’s an obvious fear and uneasiness in the community," said Ald. Ray Lopez. "This is not something that happens every day in our area."

Lopez hopes neighbors with surveillance cameras look at the video for clues or the suspect.

“They may have inadvertently caught something they think is insignificant, so we want the entire community from Kenzie to California and 47th Street to Archer to review what they have," he said.

Chicago police Cpt. Don Jerome asked neighbors to share video of anything suspicious from Sunday around 8 or 9 a.m.

"We need to get the word out there that they can drop it off or they can give it through an intermediary or they simply can call 911 and we can even pick it up," he said.
