Kids Questioned For Showing Up Drunk at School

Students appeared to be under the influence on the first day of school at Naperville North High School

The first day of high school in Naperville began with suspensions for some.

"A number of students" showed up to class apparently intoxicated Wednesday at Naperville North High School, a School District 203 spokeswoman told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Director of Communications Susan Rice said the students were acting in an unusual way and were possibly under the influence. The students were drinking off-campus, she said, at a "get together" before school.

Rice told the Chicago Tribune at least 20 students and their families were being questioned. She declined to say how many suspensions were handed down.

Seniors held their annual tailgate party Wednesday before school, Rice said, but there was no alcohol.
