NW Side Store Clerk Beaten for Not Having 3XL Tank Tops

A store clerk was hit with a baseball bat Tuesday morning after the clerk told a customer the store did not carry the size of tank top shirts he wanted, police said.

The attack happened sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the 5500 block of West Belmont Avenue on the city's Northwest Side, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

The offender asked the 51-year-old store clerk if the store carried tank tops in the size triple extra large, O’Brien said.

When the store clerk said no, the man began beating the clerk with a baseball bat, police said.

The man was treated for lacerations to the head at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center and later released, police said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
