New Court Date Set for NIU Murder Suspect

Police say Chaz Thrailkill shot Steven Agee Jr. after a fight escalated

The south suburban Markham man facing charges for allegedly shooting and killing a Northern Illinois University student at an off-campus party last week appeared briefly in court on Monday.

DeKalb County Judge Robbin Stuckert set another hearing for Dec. 7 to hear a motion to reduce Chaz Thraikill's $3 million bail.

Police say Thrailkill, 19, shot Steven Agee Jr., 22, of Park Forest just after 2 a.m. Wednesday after a fight between the two escalated. The men were at an off-campus party in an apartment on the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive in DeKalb.

Police tracked down and arrested Thrailkill around 11 a.m. Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police say Thrailkill is not a NIU student and apparently was visiting a friend in DeKalb. He is being held on $3 million bail.

Agee was a NIU senior and student leader who planned to graduate this spring.
