DuPage Co. Man Gets 40 Years for Stabbing Mom over Concert Tickets

Prosecutors say Robert Lyons stabbed his mother to death when she refused to get him tickets to an Avril Lavigne concert

A DuPage County man has been sentenced to 40 years in state prison for stabbing his mother to death — allegedly because she refused to call a friend for skybox tickets to an Avril Lavigne concert.

Judge Kathryn Creswell handed down 39-year-old Robert Lyons' sentence on Monday. A jury had found the Lyons, of Carol Stream, Ill., guilty of first degree murder four months ago.

According to prosecutors, Lyons murdered his mother Linda Bolek, 61, back in 2008 in the condo they shared after he had begun arguing with her over the tickets.

Lyons hit his mother over the head with a liquor bottle, stabbed her repeatedly with two knives after she had fallen and poured chemicals, including Drain-O and insecticide, all over her body, according to a release from the state's attorney's office, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Lyons was arrested just hours later at a local Hooters restaurant.
