Bill Murray Reveals Cubs Superstitions, Why His Good Luck Charm Didn't Work

Bill Murray thinks he knows why his attempt at bringing the Cubs good luck Sunday failed – he was wearing too many clothes.

Murray, who is a big Cubs fan and grew up in the Chicago area, appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday where he revealed that he rubbed the Cubs’ lineup card for the National League Championship Series game against the New York Mets all over his body.

Kimmel said Cubs Manager Joe Maddon asked Murray to touch the card before the game, but Murray took it a step further.

“Not only did you touch it, you rubbed it all over your body,” Kimmel said. “Do you think that is why the Cubs lost?”

Murray said he doesn’t think so.

“I was wearing too many layers,” he said.

Cubs fans are known for having their superstitions, and Murray was no exception. He also said he tried to change the team’s luck by changing seats after the fifth inning.

“We thought maybe we’d change the mojo a bit,” he said.

The Cubs lost the game 4-1 and the Mets took a 2-0 lead in the series. Still, it doesn’t appear the losses have affected the famous Cubs superfan’s hopes.

“The ideal scenario is for each home team to win all its games until the seventh game, and then we decide at the end,” Murray said.

For now, Cubs fans should hope that if Murray has his hands on Tuesday’s lineup card, he’s not wearing many clothes.
