No Bond for Murder Suspect Caught by Police Working Overtime

Arrest was part of the department's new overtime initiative

A South Side man has been denied bond on murder charges after he was arrested by officers on patrol as part of the Chicago Police Department's new Violence Reduction Overtime Initiative.

Anthony Smith, 26, was charged with killing 29-year-old Hansen Jackson early Sunday in the 3700 block of West Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park. Police said Jackson was shot several times in the chest.

Police said officers heard gunfire and saw Smith shoot at Jackson. They called an ambulance and took off after Smith. They caught him after a brief chase and recovered a gun at the scene, police said.

Smith's next court hearing is set for July 16.
