Murder Charges Filed in 2013 Crash That Killed 11-Year-Old

Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a man accused of a carjacking that led to a crash that killed an 11-year-old boy in 2013 days before Christmas.

Rockie Douglas, 36, has been charged with two counts of murder as well as one count of vehicular hijacking and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police say Douglas was the driver of a stolen green minivan that collided with a Chevy suburban at the intersection of 55th and Halsted Streets. Donovan Turnage, 11, was thrown from the Chevy and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The suspect raced from the scene to a nearby gas station where he stole a second vehicle, according to authorities.

Chicago and state police say Douglas began a series of carjackings in Chicago on Friday, when he allegedly stole a green Dodge Caravan at 11:20 a.m. in the 800 block of West Irving Park Road.

Douglas is set to appear in bond court Wednesday. It was not known if he had an attorney.
