Mother, Young Son Found Shot To Death in Chicago

Chevonne Brown and her 5-year-old son were found in their Back of the Yards home, police said.

A young mother and her little boy were found shot to death early Friday in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Police say 31-year-old Chevonne Brown and her 5-year-old son, Sterling Sims, were found at about 2:40 a.m. inside their home on the 5300 block of South Winchester.

"[He was] real funny, real happy. He was just a real nice kid," Doris Sims said of her grandson.

Family members told NBC Chicago that Brown lived with her boyfriend in the home. They moved in together a couple months ago.

Brown also has an 11-year-old son who was not hurt and is now with family members. They say she loved her boys, was a dedicated mother and can't imagine who would do this.

"I'm in pain. I'm in pain and I'm in shock, and I can't really describe it because I just buried my mother this past Saturday, so I'm still just trying to suffer and get over her death," said Doris Sims.

Detectives were still searching the home and collecting evidence Friday. They had not yet released a suspect description.

No one was in custody by Friday afternoon.
