An Illinois mom is gaining one more family member this Mother's Day weekend after being reunited with her long-lost son.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday that a North Carolina man given up for adoption at birth surprised his biological mother this weekend after being separated for nearly 44 years.
Diane Pope gave birth to Greg Harris at age 17 in 1970. Pope says her mother put Harris up for adoption without her knowledge.
But Harris didn't learn that he was adopted until February. That's when he acquired his original birth certificate and entered Pope's name into a Facebook search. Harris and Pope's family planned a reunion for June, but he decided to surprise her on Saturday.
Pope says this Mother's Day has been a "marvelous blessing."
