Mokena Business Owners Worried After String of Break-Ins

At least four burglaries have been reported in a Mokena strip mall over the weekend.

More than half of the businesses here at the Prairie Commons strip mall were hit by burglars over the weekend. Shattering windows to get in not only once but twice.

"I didn’t even think anyone stole anything because everything looked like it was in tact," said Tresses Salon co-owner Melanie Saldana. "I’m just grateful that nobody was here, the strip mall was empty and nobody got hurt."

They already struck two nights in a row, so what’s to keep from coming back?

Pearl Garcia-Schober is also a co-owner of the salon.

"When it gets dark out, which is pretty early now, like 4:30, we’re closing the doors," she said. "We lock the doors and just wait for people to knock."

She speculated on what the thieves used to break her businesses' window to gain entry.

"Could have been something very heavy because not only did it make it through the window, but it also made it all the way into our drywall," she said.
