Ministers Honor Fathers of Teens Killed in Chicago

A group of pastors from Chicago’s West Side have honored the fathers Derrion Albert and Willie Williams III with awards for Outstanding Fatherhood.

But the 2009 Joseph Award for Outstanding fatherhood is more about drawing attention the rampant violence that claimed the lives of each honorees son.

Derrion Albert was killed in a mob-style beating near Fenger High School in September; and Willie Williams was gunned down on April 1, 2006.

"This is genocide," said Rev. Ira Acree. "We are losing children by the scores."

Friday’s ceremony is a preview for a December 13 event called “A Sunday of Sermons,” in which a group of 13 ministers will talk about youth violence.
