Man Charged with DUI After Striking 87-Year-Old Pedestrian

Police have charged a 26-year-old man who allegedly struck and critically injured an 87-year-old man with a car in the Uptown neighborhood Friday morning.

Michael Izeta, of the 6100 block of North Damen Avenue, has been charged with felony aggravated DUI (resulting in serious injury), in addition to multiple citations, including, striking a pedestrian in the roadway, failure to yield, two counts of driving under the influence, running a red light, driving without a license and driving without insurance.

The accident happened around 7 a.m. Friday at Broadway and Lawrence, when an 87-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing the street.

The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition on Saturday, according to police.

Izeta was in police custody Saturday and was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday for a bond hearing.
