Melrose Man Arrested for River North Nightclub Fight

He allegedly used his car to run two men down outside of the club

A 37-year-old man who allegedly drove his car on the sidewalk outside a nightclub in River North and critically injured two men will appear in bond court Saturday.

Alejandro Escobar was arrested at his home in Melrose Park on Friday, according to a press release from the Chicago Police Department News Affairs. Police charged him with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, the release said.

Investigators allege Escobar deliberately drove his Honda Accord onto the sidewalk  and hit the two men who were standing outside of the nightclub on West Ontario Street, the release said.

The release states the motive is unknown, but Chicago Tribune reported Escobar ran the men down after they laughed at the two women who were with him.

Both victims, a 30-year-old man and 23-year-old man, were taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.

One of the victims was released from the hospital on Friday, but there was no update on the second victim, Tribune reported.

Escobar is expected to appear in bond court Saturday.
