McRunner Beats Marathon ‘Personal Best'

A Palatine runner only ate McDonald's for 30 days before the L.A. Marathon

Joe D'Amico is loving it.

The 36-year-old Palatine runner who prepped for the Los Angeles Marathon eating only McDonald's for breakfast, lunch and dinner scored his "personal best" in this weekend's race.

D'Amico came in 29th place overall in the L.A. Marathon on Sunday, clocking in at 2:36:13, or 5:57 per mile.

"It was a rainy, windy, cold race," he wrote on his blog, "Confessions of a Drive-Thru Runner" at mcrunner.com, "but I knew I had almost 24,000 'fans' cheering me on!"

D'Amico started his golden arches-only diet about a month ago to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. He donated $1 for every Facebook fan "like" through March 20 up to $2,500 and raised an additional $2,500.

His mornings were marked with orange juice, hot cakes and an Egg McMuffin. During the one-month period, he ran about 349 miles.

When confronted with healthy dieting questions online, D'Amico gave candid answers.

"I won’t pretend that my previous diet was a model marathon diet," he wrote. "But, I will say with certainty that I have felt no difference in energy levels or running performance. "

Those interested in helping Ronald McDonald House Charities can “like” McRunner on Facebook or donate directly to RHMC. D'Amico has raised more than $27,000.
