McDonald's Headquarters Evacuated for Suspicious Package

Police determined the package was a digital media player

Employees were evacuated for about two hours Friday morning from McDonald's corporate headquarters in suburban Chicago after a suspicious package was found, the restaurant chain said.

Oak Brook Police said it received a 911 call at about 10:42 a.m. about the suspicious item at the building on the 2100 block of McDonald’s Drive.

"In an abundance of caution, the building has been evacuated," McDonald's said in a statement.

An investigation by Oak Brook authorities and the DuPage County Bomb Squad determined the package to be "safe and legitimate," and the building reopened at 1 p.m.

Police determined the item was a digital media player.

About 1,300 employees work in the building.
