Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications held a press conference Sunday night addressing school closures and plow service for the city.
Calling the snowstorm "historic," the mayor said the city's resources for snow removal are in full service to clear the streets. About 500 pieces of equipment will be on the streets overnight Sunday, and between 750,000 and 100,000 tons of salt are on the streets. Additionally, snow plow drivers are working overtime.

The snowstorm over the Chicago area is one of the biggest in Chicago history in terms of snowfall. Upwards of 16 inches of snow are on the ground in some areas.
A Blizzard Warning is currently in effect until midnight Sunday.
Chicago Public Schools cancelled classes for Monday, and several other schools and businesses have closed.
