Matteson Man Questioned in Son's Fatal Shooting

Police have not yet revealed a motive

Matteson police on Monday continued questioning a man who officers said admitted to fatally shooting his son.

Police received a 911 call around 9 p.m. Sunday with reports of a shooting at 3761 W. 216th St.

When officers arrived they found a man standing in the front yard. He said he had shot his son.

Once inside, officers found the body of a 26-year-old man, later identified as Timothy Lithgow Jr., in the living room with multiple gun shots wounds. Lithgow was later pronounced dead.

His father was taken into custody. Police have not yet revealed what may have lead up to the shooting.

Neighbor Melvin Pettis said they were for the most part quiet people.

"It's extremely shocking," said Pettis. "It's really sad. My heart goes out to the family."
