Sprint reported a massive service outage affecting the majority of their phone customers in Chicago and the surrounding areas Wednesday evening.
Local engineers were reported to be working on the ground to fix the issue just after 6:30 p.m., a Sprint spokesperson said.
The incident reportedly affected customers' voice and text messaging services.
As of 7 p.m. Wednesday the service was still out and they were unsure of the totalnumber of customers that had been affected.
By 9:30 p.m. Sprint had effectively restored all service.
A spokesperson says they still don't know why the outage happened, and they are have the incident under investigation.
