She was one of the casualties of lay-offs at CBS2 in Chicago in March 2008.
Before that time, she was an anchor at WLS-TV for 14 years. There she became the first female to anchor a top-rated 10 p.m. newscast in Chicago.
But WBBM (Channel 2) made some big changes in an effort to crawl its way out of the bottom of the local news ratings, and Childers' contract was not renewed at the same time the station's 10 p.m. anchor Diane Burns was let go.
The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that Childers is now starting a new career in public relations.
