Man's Throat Slit on Near West Side

A man was found dead late Saturday with a knife wound to his throat at his Near West Side apartment.

Police were called to a third-floor apartment in the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard about 11:50 p.m. where they found a 56-year-old man lying on the floor in a pool of blood, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

Police said his throat was slit.  He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2333 W. Jackson Blvd., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which indicated he was found lying outside the front door of the apartment.

No one was in custody for the murder as of 8:45 a.m., Mirabelli said.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
