Man of Steel Flies into Windy City in August

Crew is scheduled to start filming in far west suburban Plano next week

Superman will swoop into downtown Chicago for several days in August.

The production crew and cast of “Man of Steel” are expected to shoot building exteriors between Aug. 7 and 17, weather permitting, Chicago Film Office Director Richard Moskal told Crain’s Chicago Business.

Vancouver and computer graphics will steal some of the show away from Chicago, but Warner Bros. is insisting Chicago will star in the movie despite most of the filming happening in Vancouver.

“Why would they bother going to Chicago if they’re not going to use Chicago,” according to a studio spokesperson.

Chicagoans may want to be on the lookout for possible star sightings.

Henry Cavill is starring as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as Superman’s nemesis, General Zod. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner are starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive Earth parents, and Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond as his Krypton parents.

Crain’s reports far west suburban Plano is presumably the setting for Clark Kent’s rural Kansas town. Filming is scheduled to start there next week.

“Man of Steel” is expected to open in theaters June 2013.
