Armed Man ‘Would Have Hit National News' If He Wasn't Arrested in Franklin Park, Police Say

A man with several weapons was reportedly taken into custody in Franklin Park this week and police claim he would have “hit national news had he carried out what he was going to do.”

The Chicago Tribune reported the man began making statements on Facebook that prompted a police response around 5 a.m. Monday.

The man was located in the basement of a building in the 2900 block of Gustav Street, the publication reports. On that same block is a Filadelfia Evangelical Free Church and across the street is a junior high school.

Franklin Park Director of Police Michael Witz told the Tribune the 28-year-old man was armed with three handguns and had several rounds of ammunition when he was taken into custody. He did not comment on what the man was allegedly planning to do.

No charges were filed as of Monday evening, but they were expected by Wednesday morning, the Tribune reported.
