Man Who Allegedly Threatened Daley Denies Charges

A California man who was arrested for making a threatening telephone call to Mayor Daley says authorities are overreacting, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Christopher Fox, 39, currently detained in Santa Clara jail, says he called Mayor Daley's office because he found Daley's comments to a reporter about the gun ban inappropriate.

Daley's remarks, which have become the stuff of instant lore, came at a news conference about illegal gun seizures earlier this month. A reporter asked him whether the gun ban was working and Daley hefted a rifle and said "Oh it's been very effective. If I put this up your butt, you'll find out how effective it is. If you put a round up, you know, your person."

Daley later apologized.

As for Fox, authorities say his message contained "a threat to shoot with a firearm Mayor Richard M. Daley." He is being held without bail.
