Man Wanted in Series of Child-Luring Attempts

A man is suspected in several attempts of child luring since April in South Side neighborhoods, police said in a community alert Saturday.

In at least four incidents, the man approaches school-aged students in his vehicle or on foot while they walking are walking on the streets in Chicago’s West Woodlawn and Woodlawn neighborhoods.

Police said the man offers the children candy, blows kisses, and attempts to get them to come to him.

The four reported incidents took place on:

  • April 1 around 7:30 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue
  • May 24 around 5 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue
  • June 4 around 6:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue
  • June 6 around 6:30 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Drexel Avenue

The man is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years of age, with black hair worn in dread locks with gold tips.

He has been seen in a red Montana van and a white 4-door vehicle with center caps missing from the wheels, the alert said.
