Man Punched, Robbed in Loop Pedway

A man was approached by two men in the Jackson Street transfer tunnel, police said

Chicago Police are patrolling the pedway system in the Loop as detectives search for two men who robbed a transit rider late Monday.

A man in his 30s reportedly was approached from behind by two men at about 11:15 p.m. in the Jackson Street transfer tunnel. The men demanded his iPhone, then punched him in the face and took it, police said.

Despite more than a dozen surveillance cameras in the pedway and the two adjoining CTA stations, it's the second robbery in two days. Detectives are analyzing video from surveillance cameras to try and identify suspects.

Early Sunday morning, a man in his 20s was knocked over and robbed of his iPhone in the tunnel. Police said the robberies are similar.

People wearing iPhones and iPods told NBCChicago they know the devices are a common target of thieves, and rider Gabby Ziecina said she keeps hers out of sight.

"I keep it in my pocket or my purse," Ziecina said. "It's really scary."
