Man Fleeing Robbers, Hit By Car

A man died after being struck by a vehicle while fleeing from robbers early Sunday in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood.

A man in his 30s was walking with a 27-year-old man in the 2700 block of South Kedvale Avenue at 5 a.m. when four to five men approached and attempted to rob them, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.

The men split up while running from the robbers, Perez said. His companion discovered the man in his 30s in the street struck by a vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 5:38 a.m., Perez said.

It is unclear if the victim was struck by the robbers or accidentally by a passing motorist, Perez said.

The robbers fled southbound on Kedvale Avenue in a white Ford Taurus.

Area Central detectives and the police Major Accidents Investigations Unit are investigating.
