Man Fatally Shot Near Lincoln Square McDonald's

Police source said the shooting may have stemmed from a drug deal gone bad

A man was fatally shot Monday night in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on Chicago's northwest side, police said.

The man was sitting in a dark-colored BMW sedan in the McDonald’s parking lot in the 4900 block of North Lincoln Avenue when he was shot in the head at about 7:30 p.m., police said.

A police source said the shooting may have stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.

Steven Beasley, a Lincoln Square resident for 10 years, said he was walking past the McDonald’s shortly after 7 p.m. when he saw a man who looked to be in his 20s and a woman arguing in the BMW.

"They were freaking out," Beasley said.

The woman got out of the car, and the man tried to stop her by grabbing the jacket she was carrying, leaving at least one of the car’s rear doors open, he said. The two walked into the McDonald’s and sat down. Still yelling, the man pointed at the cellphone of another man who was eating at the restaurant, Beasley said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death, but could not provide further details.

Area North detectives were investigating.
