Man Charged in Fatal Wicker Park Shooting

A Chicago man was charged Sunday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man outside a popular Wicker Park bar Saturday.

Manuel Gonzalez, 29, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

Police said Gonzalez fatally shot a 19-year-old man around 2:20 a.m. Saturday in a crowded Wicker Park bar district in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

Officers said they were on a routine patrol of the area when they heard gunshots across from Nick’s Beer Garden.

The officers found the man with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation on the sidewalk, police said.

Gonzalez was positively identified through several line-ups and later charged, according to authorities.
