Man Charged in Accidental Shooting of 3-Year-Old Boy in South Deering Home

Davis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday

A man was charged Monday for the accidental shooting of a 3-year-old boy who was found shot to death Sunday afternoon at a home in South Deering on the Far South Side.

Ronald Davis, 29, is charged with two felony counts, including circumstance endanger/death and possession/use of firearm.

About 4:15 p.m., officers found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the face inside the home in the 9600 block of South Escanaba, according to preliminary information from Chicago police.

He was rushed to Trinity Hospital and pronounced dead, police said, though the Cook County medical examiner’s office didn’t immediately confirm his death.

Authorities said the offender was placed into custody Sunday at approximately 5:40 p.m., after police said he "knowingly left a loaded gun in a place where the child was able to access the weapon."

Davis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
