Police had been investigating the “suspicious” death after responding to the 1900 block of South Courtland Avenue just after noon Monday for a well-being check, they said

A suburban Chicago man has been charged with murder, accused of stabbing his mother to death with a large sword, police announced Wednesday.

David Krystyniak, 47, of Park Ridge was charged with first-degree murder and ordered held without bond Wednesday.

Krystyniak's 74-year-old mother, Judith Krystyniak, died of multiple stab and incised wounds, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Police had been investigating the “suspicious” death after responding to the 1900 block of South Courtland Avenue just after noon Monday for a well-being check. There they found a woman dead inside a house, Park Ridge police said in a statement.

Police called the death “suspicious in nature,” but had previously said it was an isolated incident and there was no danger to the public.
