Man Charged With Punching Ald. David Moore

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with punching Ald. David Moore on a South Side street early Sunday morning.

Cordale Profit, of the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, was charged with three felony counts for aggravated battery of a government employee, aggravated battery in a public place and unlawful vehicular invasion, according to Chicago Police.

Ald. Moore of the 17th Ward was returning home after attending to another "incident" in his ward around 3 a.m. Sunday when he saw a group of people soliciting near 75th Street and Peoria, according to a statement from the alderman's office. Moore then asked the group to disperse.

When the alderman identified himself, the alleged offenders began to yell and hit him, striking him in the arm, according to the statement.

The group fled the scene and Moore called police.

Profit was arrested in the same area after a 49-year-old man reported to police that he was battered during an argument, according to Chicago Police.

Police did not confirm that Moore was involved in any incident.

Moore said he received a call from a resident complaining about the group earlier Saturday. Residents have complained about prostitution in the area near 75th and Peoria for years, according to Moore.

"In an effort to make the 17th Ward a desirable place to live for everyone, we have to address all unwanted criminal activity," Moore said. "There are no harmless crimes."
