Man Charged With Making Drug-Laced Candy

Maybe he had a sweeth tooth, or maybe he was aiming for a younger clientele, but police say a man arrested in the West Town neighborhood was making large quantities of narcotics-laden treats.

Chicago Police Narcotics Division officers raided an apartment in the 2700 block of West Augusta Tuesday and found drugs with a street value of nearly $180,000, a statement from police said.

Patrick McKay, 25, was “creating large quantities of THC edibles (suckers, chocolates, cookies, brownies)” in the apartment, police said.

Overall, police recovered more than 5,900 grams of Kush-Cannabis and THC-laced sweets; along with 150 grams of mushrooms and 1 gram of MDMA, the statement said.

Estimated street value of the drugs was $178,699, and police also recovered about $9,000 in cash, and drug paraphernalia, the statement said.

McKay was charged with felony possession of cannabis (more than 5,000 grams), possession of a controlled substance (15-plus grams of LSD or analog) and possession of a controlled substance (15-100 grams of ecstacy or analog).

He was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
