Man Accused of Shooting 2 People Killed in Police-Involved Shooting

A man accused of shooting two people in Chicago, killing one of them, was killed in a police-involved shooting Friday, marking the second fatal police shooting in as many days in the city.

Chicago police said in a statement that officers were on patrol just before 12:30 a.m. in the area of Central Park and Harrison Street in the city's Homan Square neighborhood when they witnessed a shooting.

Police said a man opened fire, shooting two people, one of them fatally.

“Officers immediately intervened and engaged the male offender,” the statement read. “Shots were fired during the course of the incident.”

Shots were fired during the incident and the alleged suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities, who added that a weapon was recovered from the scene.

The person who was injured in the first shooting was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said.

The shooting is under investigation by the Independent Police Review Authority and the officers involved were placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.

Late Wednesday, another man was shot by police after he allegedly pointed a gun during a foot pursuit in the city's West Englewood neighborhood.
