Libertyville DMV Damaged in Break In

A Department of Motor Vehicles facility on Peterson Road in Libertyville is closed indefinitely while police investigate damage to the facility.

The building at 342 Peterson Road was damaged overnight Monday. Windows were smashed and equipment inside the building, including computers were damaged, according to Secretary of State Spokesman Dave Druker.

“We’re obviously disappointed,” Druker said.

DMV employees discovered the damage early Monday and alerted the police. Secretary of State officials have not been allowed in to survey the extend of the damage, Druker said.

“It looks like an act of hostility,” he said.

Lt. Bill Kinast from the Libertyville Police department said the scene is still under investigation, but confirmed that glass, computers and other equipment had been smashed.

It’s not clear when the facility will re-open. In the meantime, the Secretary of State office, who manages DMV facilities, encourages residents to use nearby facilities in Waukegan and Woodfield.
