ISU Student Reaches Finals for Lay's Flavor Competition

A Lake Zurich man is getting a taste of fame as he became one of the top three finalists for Lay’s “Do Us a Flavor” contest.

Tyler Raineri entered his go-to sauce, Siracha, as a new flavor for the chip company, putting him in the line to win a mouth-watering $1 million prize.

The Illinois State University junior said his flavor selection was inspired by his grandmother and his fraternity brothers.

“My grandma made homemade chips and we’ve always dipped stuff in siracha sauce,” Raineri said. “Anything- pasta, chips… and we have siracha in our kitchen [at the fraternity house] so that was another big part of it. We eat siracha sauce every day.”

Becoming a finalist brought more than just a chance to win $1 million.

Raineri was flown out to Texas to the Frito-Lay headquarters, to Los Angeles to film a commercial with celebrity actress Eva Longoria and to New York to launch the chip campaign.
