Frigid and potentially life-threatening temperatures in the Midwest this week has caused the popular, highly-talked about “Ice Castles” attraction in Lake Geneva to temporarily close Wednesday.
The opening date for these gorgeous, massive structures were originally set for Jan. 10 but the spokesperson had issued a statement that it would be contingent on weather conditions at the time.
Due to record-setting temperatures this week, the outdoor winter experience is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, Jan. 31.
“The health and safety of our guests and our staff is our number one priority,” said Ice Castles CEO Ryan Davis, “No one should be outdoors for an extended amount of time in extreme sub-zero temperatures.”
“Those who had already purchased tickets for Wednesday received an email and text message Monday afternoon notifying them of the weather-related closure,” the statement released said. “Ticket holders received a refund and have been given the opportunity to reschedule their visit.”
The attraction is built completely out of icicles and there are only five other locations where the Ice Castles are featured (Utah, Minnesota, Colorado, New Hampshire and Alberta, Canada).
The Lake Geneva location has tunnels, mazes, fountains and even giant ice slides that are big enough for adults to play on.

Around 120 LED lights also have been frozen inside the castle and those who visit the attraction at night will be greeted to a beautiful glowing display.
Lake Geneva's castle is currently about 10 feet high, but it is expected to hit 30-35 feet by the end of the season.
