This Labor Day weekend could make for busier-than-normal conditions on Chicago-area roadways.
The Illinois Tollway predicts the travel holiday will be even bigger than the Fourth of July.
According to area officials, Friday afternoon is predicted to be the worst day for travel, with roughly 2 million vehicles expected on the tollways compared to the typical 400,000.
Overall for the weekend, 8 million drivers are expected to take the tollways.
AAA also expects a four-year high for gas prices. Though the spike will likely be short-lived, the average price nationwide could reach $2.84 per gallon. That’s a 20 cent increase from last year.
